NCShakes Tea & Fashion Show Celebrates Fabulous Fifties
HIGH POINT, N.C. – An upcoming fundraiser for the North Carolina Shakespeare Festival will feature a stylish afternoon tea following a musical program of fashions and memories of the idyllic 1950s. “Happy Days: Fashions from the 1950s” takes place on Tuesday, March 25, from 4-5:30 p.m. at NCShakes Spirit Center (807 W. Ward Avenue, High Point).
The fashion program will be presented in William Shakespeare Hall on a raised runway, introduced at last year’s event, featuring up to twelve models wearing vintage clothing from the era, with remarks on prevalent styles, accessories, and trends in hair and make-up. The fashion show will be accompanied by images, music, and dance recalling the fun, the fads, and the fashions of the fabulous ‘50s.
Attendees will then enjoy selections of hot tea served with miniature cucumber sandwiches, scones, fruit, cream puffs and other treats in Queen Elizabeth Hall, seated at round tables for eight guests, each uniquely designed by a table host. Table hosts and designers include J.H. Adams Inn; CornerStone Interiors; Paper and Party Place; Vintage Thrift and Antiques, and community volunteers.
The presenting sponsor for this year’s Tea & Fashion Show is Simon Jewelers. Additional event sponsors include J.H. Adams Inn; Bank of North Carolina; Blaser Investment Management Group, LLC; Green Dickson Wealth Management Group UBS Financial Services; High Point Bank; K&S Tool and Manufacturing; Kilpatrick Townsend LLP; and attorney Elizabeth M. Koonce.
Introduced with this year’s event is a parallel fundraiser approved for nonprofit organizations, NCShakes 31 Days of June Raffle. Raffle tickets are on sale through May 30 at $20 each, or 3 for $50. For each of the 31 days of June, one winner’s name will be announced to receive the prize or prize package designated for that day. The prize or prize package donated for each day is valued at a minimum of $50.
Proceeds from both events benefit NCShakes’ numerous Outreach & Education programs, including the annual statewide Shakespeare To Go tour; SummerStage camps and workshops for children and adults; Hands On Shakespeare educator workshops; SchoolFest performances for student groups; Classics in Context seminars; and new, Teen Ensemble and Youth Theatre programs offering free training and performance opportunities for young people.
Last year’s Tea & Fashion Show, highlighting the Ancient Age, netted over $8,000 supporting NCShakes.
Seating for the Tea & Fashion Show is limited; reservations may be made through March 20 by calling NCShakes at 336-841-2273.
